Legalising documents

Czech documents must be authenticated in the proper manner for them to be accepted abroad. This is done through legalisation and superlegalisation (consular legalisation). During the legalisation process the signature of the competent person and the stamp of the office which issued the document in question are both verified. The type of verification carried out depends on the country in which your document is to be used.

We can take care of the legalisation or superlegalisation of all type of documents issued in the Czech Republic in accordance with the relevant legal provisions and regulations and can translate all authentications arising from the nature of this official procedure.

The Convention Abolishing the Requirement for Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents was signed in the Hague (the Netherlands) in 1961 to simplify the document legalisation procedure. This Convention Abolishing the Requirement for Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents came into force for the Czech Republic on 16.3.1999.Official Czech documents intended for presentation to the authorities of a country which is a member of the Hague Convention are authenticated using a special clause known as an “apostille”.

Documents intended for countries which are not contractual states of the Hague Convention are authenticated using a procedure known as superlegalisation (consular legalisation).
